Topic 56:
It is decided that a new state of Telangana on basis of long standing demand would come into existence. It would become the 29th state of Union of India. I welcome this decision as it would open gates for new growth and development for those living there.
Hyderabad state which on the eve of Indian independence was tried to be kept independent or merged with Pakistan by its Nawab (Princely ruler) lost its identity when it was merged with other territories to form Andhra Pradesh. That lost of identity is regained now; it will induce a further sense of patriotism. City of Hyderabad would become a common state capital for ten year that is another practical solution.
Other territories like Vidarbha, Budoland etc would catch momentum, but that too would be in the interest of integrity of India. I would welcome the Vidarbha as a state, since it comprises a very large territory and had been always kept in isolation from development and didn’t have its appropriate share of return. It perpetually suffers from drought which is overlooked in Maharashtra assembly.
I don’t feel language should be core for statehood, practical administration is better. Two well administrated states having common language are better than a single mal-administrated state with single language. Indian scenario conveys narrow minded communal parties are root causes for mal-administration due to their vote bank issues and political play cards.
As population grows demands for separations seem valid to me. We should be ready to walk in changing scenarios. I do have some other opinions of mine but in next blog, to be continued.
