Creation of a Sindh within India

Topic 57:

When Partition was declared in 1947, Sindh’s state assembly voted in favour of Pakistan. Sindh formed part of Pakistan. But Sindhis comprised of Hindus as well, and they had a large population, which lost all its identity with the land when they migrated to India.

The case of Punjab and Bengal was different as they were bifurcated into two Punjabs and Bengals, those Hindus and Sikh Punjabis along with Bengalis who migrated to India from Pakistani side had at least something to call a home a ‘Punjab’ and a ‘Bengal’, this is exactly what Sindhis lost when they migrated to India, they lost land they had no place to call a home, they had no ‘Sindh’, they became psychological refugees with no home (State) of their own.

As our political situations are changing and our intellect is growing, I feel a state should be carved out near border areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan which be christened as ‘Sindh’ and Sindhis who are dispersed here and there be settled there and be compensated for their psychological loss of land. Or just like State of Jammu and Kashmir the state should be made as State of Kutch and Sindh.

It would not be dividing game or a political play; it’s all about justice which should be done to Sindhis who lost their home. We as Indians know very well that what statehood means and what sense it creates, if one group of Indians are able to enjoy sense of attachment towards a place they call as their state then other group too should have that right to be enjoyed. Sindhis too have preferred right by virtue which others enjoy, to have a place to call as home a state of Sindh.

Our National Anthem retains the word Sindh; this should be taken as auspicious omen to start the process to carve out a state called Sindh near border areas of Gujarat and Rajasthan which should face a border wall with Sindh of Pakistan, for those Sindhis who migrated to India and their descendants. State of Kutch and Sindh would be a better and practical option in that regards. It was to be done right in 1947, but being late it better than never, at least there are a lot of Sindhis who had lost their land in 1947 who would get a Sindh a home in India, it would be a ray of hope for this dispersed community which lost its everything to become Indian, Indian govt. should compensate their sacrifice, create a Sindh in India!
